    This course covers what organizations based in an African country need to know if they seek grant funding. We provide core information about the grant process, with an emphasis on how U.S.-based funders operate. Our goal is to help you better understand the grant system, so you can create a funding strategy and make informed choices about where to look for funding

  • Is This Course a "How-To" Course on Writing Grants?

    No, this course does not focus on the technical aspects of writing a grant proposal, although we do provide some tips on the writing process and how to manage the proposal process. The material in the course covers an approach to the grant process, from setting realistic targets for grant revenue to searching for the most appropriate funding sources and presenting information in a way that will be more persuasive to potential funders.

  • Does the Course Include a Funder List?

    The course does not provide an exhaustive list of funding sources, but several modules list select funders. We also provide tips and resources where you can research potential sources of funding.

  • Will I Be Able to Get Grant Money Easily After Taking This Course?

    This course cannot provide a guaranteed formula for getting grant funding because there is no single formula that will work for every organization. What this course will help you do is assess your organization and your needs and understand what grants can and cannot fund, what types of activities are best funded with grants, and how your organization can best position itself to get grants. You may learn through the course that you are not ready to start applying for grants—but you'll have an idea of the steps you need to complete to get ready!
